A rare white-tailed eagle is found dead due to poisoning in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Actually, the body of the eagle was found last April, but the results of a post-mortem examination only showed the cause of death.
According to local police, he was proven dead due to pesticide poisoning.
Inspector Sheila McDerment of the Scottish Police said: "Apart from being illegal, poisons are a cruel way to kill birds. It also endangers the lives of other creatures and threatens our environment. "
"This incident is very disappointing because it is a beautiful and rare bird. Even extinct in England, "he added.
McDerment asked anyone who had information regarding this case to immediately report it to the police.
Ian Thomson, from Scotland's RSPB, said that the news about this poisoned eagle was terrible. According to him, this event will not be revealed if the bird does not have satellite tags.
"The killing of this young eagle adds to the list of raptor persecution incidents in recent years. Previously also recorded cases of disappearance of birds of prey, "explained Thomson.
Alex Hogg, chairman of the Scottish Gamekeepers' Association, said that in 2010 there were 32 cases of poisoning in wildlife in Scotland.
"We recognize that sea eagles can cause conflicts in land management. However, poisoning them is really the wrong way," he said.
White-tailed albatrosses were first seen again in Scotland in the 1970s after being declared extinct in England. Now, there are around 150 pairs of eagles in Scotland.
